A Dream Elopement: Lupine Fields and Icelandic Horses in Iceland
In the land of fire and ice, where nature’s grandeur knows no bounds, I had the privilege of capturing Lauren and Graham’s truly enchanting elopement. Nestled within the vibrant hues of Iceland’s lupine fields and accompanied by the gentle spirit of Icelandic horses, Lauren and Graham’s love story unfolded in a magical setting that dreams are made of.
Every elopement is a unique love story, and for Lauren and Graham, the choice of location was a decision filled with wonder and adventure. Waves of purple and green seemed to stretch to the horizon. Lupines typically bloom from late spring to early summer, and their vibrant, colorful flowers create stunning fields of purple and green. When in full bloom, these lupine meadows are a sight to behold, and they offer fantastic photo opportunities.
Fun fact: They are STUNNING but they are also invasive to Iceland! The locals don’t mind at all if you want to frolcik throught them. Some regions of the country have even implemented control measures to limit their spread. (yay for tourist!)
Icelandic horses, known for their friendly and photogenic nature, became a delightful part of this elopement photography adventure. These charming creatures added an extra layer of charm and enchantment to the photoshoot. Lauren grew up riding horses so she felt very comfortable interacting with them. Graham was a little hesitant and his horse was not very cooperative (it just wanted to eat grass instead of take photos, lol) but he did a great job!

We were so blessed to have a rare but beautiful sunny and warm day! Iceland’s unpredictable weather is part of its charm, and it can present both challenges and opportunities for photographers. We brought big coats with us anticipating it being cool but those were thrown off rather quickly and I even broke a sweat. You just never know during summer in Iceland! Lauren wore her hiking boots and they looked beyond cute with her wedding dress! I love that little wardrobe touch that says “we eloped”!
Eloping in Iceland is not just about saying “I do” in a breathtaking location; it’s also a celebration of adventure and spontaneity. Lauren and Graham’s elopement in the lupines with Icelandic horses was a dream come true, and it was a privilege for me to be a part of this special day.
